About New Calvary Baptist Church
-
Our church logo has significant symbolism. It is significant to the ministry philosophy of New Calvary Baptist Church and our approach. The coming of these symbols together tells a story of the relationship we desire to have with Jesus Christ as a church family and as those who reach out to the rest of the world
Gye Nyame The symbol in the background is an Adinkra symbol called Gye Nyame (Gee-N’ Ya Mae). The symbol means “except for God.” It is the symbol of the supremacy of God. It indicates that nothing can be possible except for God. The Gye Nyame is used to indicate the things that are done are done with God in mind and to be a reminder of God’s omnipresence.
The Cross The cross is a traditional symbol which initially represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The cross symbolizes the love that God, through his son Jesus, expressed for human creation by sacrificing his life for the sake of humanities redemption. The cross in this symbol is the same cross that is presented in the door handles of our church building.
The Dove The dove represents the Holy Spirit that speaks to the presence of God in our daily lives. The dove symbolizes the presence of God being with us and empowering us to do whatever is necessary to transform our lives. We believe at New Calvary that nothing can be done without the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We believe it is the Spirit that makes a difference in what we do.
The Colors The colors of the logo also have meaning. The red (crimson) represents the redemption that is possible with the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives, and the gold represents the power and purpose (faith) in which we operate. Through the redemption by Jesus' love and the faith we have in what God can do, we can achieve the tasks that God has for us.
