About Mount Olivet United Methodist Church

  • At Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, we know that walking into a church for the first time can be a bit intimidating. We really strive to be a church that meets people where they are, whether you've been following Jesus for many years or are just starting to investigate faith. Our hope is that you will discover Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Danville, Virginia to be a place where you can find community, grow in your relationship with Jesus and discover the mission for your life.

At Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Danville, we believe in the Holy Trinity. God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ is God's eternal Son, and has precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We believe further, that He is not only true God, but true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal, visible, return from heaven.

About The Holy Spirit : The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity, equal to the Father and Son. He is present in the world to make mankind aware of our need for Jesus Chris. He indwells every Christian from the moment of salvation as the Divine Helper, empowering him or her to live a victorious life and fulfill the Great Commission, given by Christ. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is an empowerment for service that takes place in the life of the Christian (Acts 2:5,8).

About Salvation: We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ; that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God; that it was purchased by Christ on the cross; that it is received through faith, apart from any human merit, works, or ritual; and that salvation results in righteous living, good works and biblically informed actions to bring about godly justice wherever we live.
