About Lighthouse Baptist Church

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18
Lighthouse Baptist Church
Our church started in the early eighties in a one room building that was both a school house and church. Jerry was asked to come and preach for this little farm community of wonderful, hardworking people. A few of the people had opened this church so that they could have a local gathering place to worship, but were in need of a pastor. The Lord led Jerry to us and he became the pastor of this church on December 9, 1982. At that time, our church was known as Freehill Community Church.
One of our Sunday school classes was on a bus that we bought from another church. Jerry had a desire to build a new church, so we started praying and saving anything that people were able to give, and along with some help from other churches, we were able to start looking for land. Our prayers were answered , when a man from Bristol, Virginia gave the church the land to build the church. People in the community quickly began to work on the land and start building our church.
As a church, we went to Abingdon, Virginia, where we changed our name to Lighthouse Baptist Church and in August of 1988, we moved into our new house of worship, debt free. The Lord has blessed us over and over, again. We have a beautiful church full of wonderful people, who truly love the Lord. Even though there have been some changes since that one room school house, Jerry's gospel message remains the same.
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Throughout the years, some of our church family have gone home to be with Jesus and we miss them, terribly. The old church building is still standing, but has decayed with age. However, it still serves as a reminder of all that have been saved and continue to work for our LORD!
