About Christ United Methodist Church
Christ UMC Vision and Strategy for MinistryThe church's mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Our motto is: Open hearts, open minds, open doors. The congregation is open to all people who desire to follow Jesus Christ, regardless of age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, social or economic background, or physical and/or mental limitations.
The church helped to establish Crossroads Urban Center, a ministry to low income, disabled, and minority Utah residents in downtown Salt Lake, and is one of its major supporters. Members support a wide variety of ministries to the poor and disadvantaged, both locally and abroad. Christ UMC works with Family Promise (formerly the Interfaith Hospitality Network) in Salt Lake and has a section of its building designed to house Family Promise guests. Church youth travel every year to projects in Mexico and nearby states to donate their time and hard work for others in need.
An outstanding ministry of the church for over 40 years is the Wesley Bell Ringers, a renowned high school hand bell choir. The Wesley Bell Ringers have traveled to every state in the nation and several foreign countries.
The church hosts one of the largest Boy Scout troops in the state and has become known for sponsoring the scouts annual Buffalo Barbecue.
An exact replica of Michelangelo's Pieta is beautifully displayed in the church's entryway. Visitors have dubbed it the finest piece of art in Utah.
