Our worship is God-centered, open to ancient, traditional, and more contemporary expressions, and rooted in the reality that we are all imperfect vessels before God. There are some who come in jeans, some in more formal, and everywhere in between. All that is required for worship at Stratford UMC is a heart and mind open to the work of Christ in our world.

We believe worship should be the high point of any week. A sacred time spent in a sacred space, and our hymns, prayers, and Scripture readings all contribute to this conviction. Our pastor’s sermons seek to explore the meaning of biblical passages and to connect that message to our everyday lives.

We invite you to join us as we seek to experience and share a worship experience filled with passion, joy, and fellowship.

About First United Methodist Church of Stratford

It is our belief that as we do the three items mentioned above we can accomplish the challenge found in the 4th chapter of Ephesians. Here we read from Ephesians 4:12-13 the following:

“…prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ might be built up…..becoming mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

When John Wesley wrote, “Do all the good you can, in all the places you can…” I believe he was saying if we are truly followers of Jesus Christ, we make the presence of our risen Lord known in those places where goodwill and compassion make a difference. To that end, for over 200 years, Methodists have distinguished themselves as benevolent people, reaching out to others in need.

The United Methodist Church is a connectional church This generosity is known as our apportionment giving, and every year churches throughout this annual conference share their resources to make a difference in the lives of men, women, and children in our state and around the world.
