About St. John's Episcopal Church

Founded in 1706 by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, London, UK; has Holy Eucharist services in both English (10 AM) and Spanish (11:30 AM) every Sunday and Sunday Vespers in English at 2:30 PM with a free meal following each Sunday service; church is very active in Sunday outreach to the many hungry in the community; youngest signer of the US Constitution, Jonathan Dayton, is buried beneath the church in an unmarked grave; St. John's is the site of the marriage of the Anglican parents of first American-born Roman Catholic Saint, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, who founded the order of the Sisters of Charity and the Roman Catholic parochial school system; from 1706 to 1855 St. John's congregation served both the Anglican/Episcopal community and the Roman Catholic community of Elizabeth and surrounds in conjoined services with an Anglican/Episcopal Rector celebrating the Holy Eucharist or officiating at Morning Prayer and preaching.
