About Mt. Rose Reformed Orthodox Presbyterian Church

  • What kind of church is Mt. Rose?
    A BIBLE-BELIEVING CHURCH

At Mt. Rose we believe that the Bible is the Word of God. This means we hold fast to the truths that Scripture teaches – that God created us, that we fell into sin, that Jesus Christ came to save us, and that one day He will return again.

    A REFORMED CHURCH
Our roots run deep. Our heritage traces back to the practice and teaching of the churches of the 16th-Century Protestant Reformation. Our confession of faith is the Westminster Standards: The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.

    A PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
“Presbyterian” comes from a Greek word meaning “elder.” Mt. Rose is governed by a group of elders, including the minister, whose primary responsibility it is to care for the spiritual well-being of her members.

A CHURCH OF THE ORTHODOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (OPC)
The OPC is a nation-wide denomination. The word “orthodox” simply means “straight thinking” or “straight teaching,” and refers to our commitment to the historic Christian faith. To find out more about the OPC, go to www.opc.org.

    Worship at Mt. Rose
Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!
    (Psalm 95:2)
Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
    (Hebrews 12:28, 29)

The most important thing we do as Christians is worship. And the most important thing about worship is the glory of God. At Mt. Rose we seek to glorify God by worshiping Him with both reverence and joy. Reverence, because God is great and holy. And joy, because God is our loving Father and His Son is our merciful Savior.

Our worship service includes the singing of hymns and psalms, prayer, and the reading and preaching of Scripture. Below is the order of service for a typical Sunday morning worship.

The morning worship begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 11:15. We sing our hymns to the accompaniment of a piano. Pastor Johnson’s sermons are expository with application, focusing on the person and work of Christ. He usually preaches a sermon series through a book of the Bible. From time to time he’ll preach a topical series on some aspect of doctrine or Christian living.

Children of all ages are welcome to stay with their parents in the worship service. We do not have a children’s church but we do offer nursery care for younger children.

The atmosphere is reverential but not stuffy. We don’t have a dress code; most people dress nicely but are not necessarily “dressed up.”
