In the Fall of 1976, a bible study was begun in the home of Russell and Winnie Improta, with 13 people in attendance. The foundation of this bible study was laid by the Mission Committee of the Central and Blue Ridge Associations in conjunction with the Westminster Baptist Church. On June 5, 1977, the group moved to the square on Frederick Street and became a mission. The church continued to prosper and it outgrew its' facilities. Six years later, on April 3, 1983, the Taneytown Baptist Church moved to the new location on Sells Mill Road. Presently, we have over 175 members and are currently in a buildling program to give us new educational and fellowship areas. Our mission is to reach all people for Jesus Christ, to serve and to nurture them and to uphold God's teachings according to His Holy Word.
