Salem is the only church in Baltimore County (and one of only a small handful in the Conference)that includes a homeless shelter on its premises. The Night Of Peace Family Shelter Inc is an emergency shelter for families with children founded in 2005. It currently opens 6pm to 8am, 7 days a week, serves up to 28 persons and has a paid staff of six persons. The ministry is set up as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and is supported by several churches that provide food, supplies, funding and volunteers. The ministry is federally-funded through the Office Of Community Conservation, a branch of Baltimore County Government. the shelter is seeking additional funding and volunteers to expand its mission and ministry.Guests may stay in the shelter up to 120 days as they work on permanent housing solutions, find employment and meet other goals in their transition plan. Salem UMC also operates a Thrift Store on Saturday mornings.
