The Catholic Diocese of Shreveport was created and established by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 1986. Most Rev. William B. Friend was named as the first bishop and installed on July 30, 1986. The Diocese of Shreveport was the seventh diocese in Louisiana. The Diocese covers 11,200 square miles and 16 parishes. The second bishop of Shreveport, Most Rev. Michael G. Duca was ordained and installed on May 19, 2008 and serves the diocese today.
The Catholic Diocese of Shreveport serves 16 parishes of North Louisiana including Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, East Carroll, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouchita, Red River, Richland, Sabine, Union, Webster and West Carrol
