About Central Barren
-
In February 2009, Indiana conference unveiled their cluster idea as a way for local congregations to work together to accomplish the gospel mission in their local areas. At a kick-off meeting at Edwardsville UMC, we gathered to hear about our mission and to pick our cluster partners. We could choose whoever we wanted, as long as we had four to nine churches in each cluster. We had representatives of nine counties from our South District in a scene best described as organized chaos! But, what emerged was the Serving Seven Ministry Cluster –named for Palmyra, Thompson's Chapel, Unity Chapel, Central Barren, New Salisbury, Hursttown, and Crandall United Methodist churches which encompasses the Northern Harrison county region.
Gary Davis was selected as our cluster leader with Jon Howerton and Phyllis Krush as co-leaders. Since that time, Archie Sauerheber has become our secretary-treasurer.
We knew that night that we were off to a great start! We started monthly meetings right away. First on the agenda was our purpose: making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world! Is it hard? --sure it is but we keep meeting and planning ways to get out in the community and let the Serving Seven shine!
We have several ideas on the back burner and need help with—we have kicked around the idea of helping with Repair Affair, Habitat for Humanity, or Freed from Within. We have discussed a Veterans Day service or a Thanksgiving service this year…..maybe a special choir of our seven churches……the list is endless and so are the possibilities!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the next Serving Seven Cluster Event!
