About St Luke The Evangelist Catholic Church
-
In the spirit of our patron, St. Luke, we strive to embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ in order to foster holiness, community and commitment.
St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church began as a mission of St. Ignatius Church in Tarpon Springs in 1985. Plans were made and construction began on a building to meet the worship, social educational and administrative needs of the community. This building was erected on land that had been acquired by the Diocese of St. Petersburg under Bishop Charles McLaughlin in 1974.
By a decree dated October 18th, 1985, the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, Bishop W. Thomas Larkin raised the mission to the status of a parish, and on December 7th, 1986 he blessed the new parish facility.
On September 8, 1985, the Sisters of St. Clare were welcomed to our parish. Thanks to the dedicated work and the example of the Sisters of St. Clare who continue to be a vital part of parish life, St. Luke can be proud of its flourishing Educational Programs for children, its instructional programs for adults and its pastoral care of the sick.
Since its inception, St. Luke Parish has enjoyed remarkable growth from a few hundred families to three thousand families. The increase in membership has been accompanied by an increase in Organizations and Ministries.
We invite you to contribute your time, treasure and talent to keep alive and to increase that special spirit of warmth that is apparent here in Palm Harbor and has come to be known as “The Spirit of St. Luke.” May our parish continue to grow in the tradition of our patron, St. Luke as we celebrate in the love of Christ and share the faith together in the true Spirit of St. Luke.
