About St. Peter's of the Valley Episcopal Church
St. Peter's of the Valley Episcopal Church in Basalt, Colorado came into being through the vision of the Diocese of Colorado, Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen, and an intrepid group of Roaring Fork Valley Christians. St. Peter's is a vibrant, exciting, welcoming Christian community. What We Believe
We believe that all people are created good by a loving God, to be in relationship with God and with others. We also believe and know that we live in a world that is fallen and broken by sin, and that God's love for us offers new life in the person of Jesus Christ. This is the Gospel, or the Good News!
We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments contain all things necessary for salvation (The Book of Common Prayer, and that within the great Story of the Bible, we find out about creation, hope, salvation, the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, and our place within that story.
Our place in that Story includes the Great Commandment: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength and you shall love your neighbor as yourself: (Mark 12:30-31) and the Great Commission: Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you, (Matthew 28:19-20).
We believe that God does not leave us alone to do the work of the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, but that God sends us the Holy Spirit to guide, help, and lead us with power and grace. “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you, (John 14:26).
We act on these beliefs first and foremost by worshipping God. As an Episcopal Church, we worship according to the Anglican tradition, which is based in prayer together according to The Book of Common Prayer. We believe that our lives are formed by how we pray, and that our prayers and worship will inevitably affect and change our lives in the world.
We belong both to the Episcopal Church and the global Anglican Communion. We are under the spiritual authority of the Bishop of Colorado, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, and the Archbishop of Canterbury.
We understand four different orders of ministry: lay persons, bishops, priests, and deacons. Each order offers special gifts and takes a different role in our worship and life together.
Within the Episcopal Church there are many different styles and expressions of this faith in widely varying congregations.
As a result, people from many different church backgrounds and people with no previous church involvement have found the Episcopal Church to be their spiritual home for their Christian ministry in the world.
We invite you to experience this community at St. Peter's through worship and participation in our church household.
