- Food Pantry
The VV Food Pantry started in 2020 as a way to help people impacted by COVID-19 and the economic hardships caused by related lockdowns. It has grown into so much more.
We began with a straightforward plan: Let’s reach out to our community, especially to those in need, with some groceries to help them get through the week. We opened on Thursdays at NOON, with the idea of helping people who were out of work or in need for any reason.
We started simply enough – with contributions from the church and trips to local grocery stores to fill in where needed. We gave out bags of canned goods, chips, crackers, and perishable foods that were donated.
We have since been blessed by donations from various community organizations and other food pantries serving the needy in our area. God has opened a lot of doors, and we are blessed to be able to pass that on and extend a helping hand.
So today, we are able to give out generous portions of fresh food and dry goods to an average of 100 families per week. We load groceries into people’s cars at two drive-thru stations and also serve individuals and families at our walk-up station.
Our volunteer team has grown in their expertise in prepping and distributing donations. And we have been blessed with drivers to retrieve donations from partner food pantries.
We still observe COVID safety protocols – masks and gloves – as well as wearing reflective vests for working in the parking lot around vehicles.
We look forward to continuing to serve our community through both good times and hard times – whatever lies ahead.
