About Phoenix World Outreach
-
Ours has been a rich history of success. Once known as "THE CHURCH THAT AMERICA BUILT" Phoenix World Outreach began as Phoenix Inner City Church in the heart of the inner city of Phoenix Arizona almost 24 years ago.
When it began, it was the vision of one man, Dr. Angel Rosa. At the time he was the director of the TEEN CHALLENGE of Greater Phoenix when he saw the need for more in the inner city than just discipleship. He saw the needs were great and virtually no one was doing anything about it. God began to move on his heart to begin building a church in the heart of the inner city that would be multicultural, relevant and effective.
Every Friday night homeless men and women were brought in and ministered to, clothed and fed. Many of the graduates and students came from the ministry of the church to the homeless. Once the ministry was approved as a home missions effort money came in from all around the country to help build the building just one block away from the Teen Challenge facility.
After a season Dr. Rosa moved on and Dr. Joseph Chavez became the second Senior Pastor of Phoenix Inner City Church in 2002. Through his leadership, drive and personal determination the church continued to flourish and grow. Dr. Chavez brought a different flavor to the inner city with his strong knowledge of the word and flare for teaching. After only two and a half years Dr. Chavez went on to pursue other interests.
In 2005 Pastor Maurice Chavez, Dr. Chavez's son, became the third Pastor of Phoenix Inner City Church. His leadership style is different than the two men before him. He brings a strong sense of discipleship and teaching to the lives who are yet growing and learning in the inner city.
His first year was a year of establishing a new foundation and restrengthening the fellowship. In January of 2006 the church voted to change the name of the church from Phoenix Inner City Church to Phoenix World Outreach, which brings a sense of change and strength for the coming destiny of this church.
In 2005 a new legacy of world changers was formed under the vision under Pastor Maurice Chavez and continues to grow through his unending vision and dedication to the lives of men and women trapped in the darkness of the inner city.
Under this new vision the church continues to thrive and grow! It continues to reach out to the inner city through its many ministries and programs.
