Welcome to the web page of Oakdale Baptist Church in Athens, Alabama. We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself - baptism as a symbol of entrance into the body of Christ and the Lord's Supper a regular reminder of the death, resurrection, and return of Christ. Baptism symbolizes the believer's death to sin and new life in Christ. Those baptized are done so in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Together they are simultaneously God's pledge to us, divinely ordained means of grace, our public vows of submission to the once crucified and now resurrected Christ, and anticipations of his return and of the consummation of all things.

We believe in the personal and glorious coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with His holy angels, when He will establish His kingdom fully and exercise His role as Judge of all. This coming of Christ at a time known only to God requires constant expectancy and should motivate the believer to godly living, sacrificial service, and energetic mission. This is our blessed hope.

About The Holy Spirit : The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity, equal to the Father and Son. He is present in the world to make mankind aware of our need for Jesus Chris. He indwells every Christian from the moment of salvation as the Divine Helper, empowering him or her to live a victorious life and fulfill the Great Commission, given by Christ. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is an empowerment for service that takes place in the life of the Christian (Acts 2:5,8).
