About Sweet United Methodist Church
-
Welcome!
We extend a special welcome to you. If you are single, married, divorced, straight, gay, rich, dirt poor, you are welcome at Sweet UMC. We extend a special welcome if you are a crying newborn, are fit and healthy, could lose a few pounds, or have trouble hearing what most people are saying.
We welcome you if you can sing like an angel or croak like a frog. You are welcome if you are just looking because there is nothing better to do, or if you are searching for something more. We welcome you if you can quote John Wesley or are not sure who he is. We welcome you if you have never been in a church before, or haven’t been in a church since, well you can’t remember when.
We welcome you if you are getting up in age, but have never really grown up. We welcome teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome stay at home moms, career moms, NASCAR followers, tree huggers, latte-sippers, sports enthusiasts, hunters, people who fish, vegetarians, junk-food junkies. We welcome you if you are struggling to keep your head above water, struggle with addictions, or have your life together. We welcome you if you don’t like “organized religion” because we have been there too.
We welcome you if you are part of the flat earth society, haven’t taken a vacation in years, can’t spell, aren’t sure what a Methodist is, or are looking for a church because your grandmother is coming to town and wants to go to church.
We welcome you if you have tattoos, piercing, or both. We welcome you if you need a prayer, have had “religion” shoved down your throat, were part of a church but haven’t been in so long that “the building would fall down if I ever came back.” (We have a very strong building.) We welcome you if you are passing through, planning on staying, or just checking us out. We welcome doubters, seekers, lost and lonely, ultra conservatives, bleeding hearts…and (if you haven’t found yourself anywhere else in this list) we welcome you.
